Framework for the Sandwich Generation

Kim Hegwood | February 17, 2025

I also saw this in schools where parents would be concerned about their kids or teachers were concerned about kids with behavior issues or falling behind academically. And one of my first questions to a parent would be, has anything changed in the home? And I can’t tell you how many times I wish I’d taken data on this. But I can’t tell you how many times the response was. Well, you know, my dad has stage four colon cancer and just moved in with us, or I’m taking care of my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s, or my mother just died. And she was the primary caregiver while I was working with my kids. So, there are all these factors impacting children too.
~Christy Yates- Author/Speaker

When someone in the family is ill it affects everyone. Today Kim and Christy Yates will talk about:

Framework for the Sandwich Generation

1. What is the Sandwich generation?

2. How do you balance care for your children and a parent?

3. How can you help your child understand what is happening to grandma?

4. What tips would you give to caregivers who are in the sandwich generation?

5. You talk about using meditation, mindfulness, and other evidence-based mind/body practices such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). How does this help the caregiver?
